National School Lunch Program

null

The National School Lunch Program (NSLP) provides nutritionally balanced, low-cost or free lunch to eligible children each school day. Federal nutrition standards also ensure these meals are within age-appropriate calorie levels and limit both unhealthy fats and sodium. NSLP provides reimbursement to states to operate nonprofit lunch programs in schools and residential childcare institutions.

Balanced nutrition throughout the day contributes to student success in and out of the classroom. NSLP plays an important role in supporting obesity prevention and overall student health by improving children’s diets and combating food insecurity.

There are approximately 940 sites that participate in Nebraska’s NSLP.
