Meal Counting and Claiming

Overview

School Food Authorities must adhere to the guidelines below to receive reimbursement for school meals and snacks. 

  • Meal Pattern and Offer versus Serve requirements must be met.
  • Accurate point of service meal counts must be collected at the end of the serving line.
  • Accurate daily counts must be documented using the “Edit Check Worksheet”, below. 
  • Some School Food Authorities are required to perform on-site reviews.

  • Only complete this waiver if your site’s point of service meal count is NOT taken at the end of the serving line.

Attachment I – On-Site Review for School Lunch and Breakfast

  • School Food Authorities with 2 or more feeding sites are required to perform an on-site review of each site that offers lunch and 50% of all sites that offer breakfast by February 1 each year. 

 

Attachment I – On-Site Review for Afterschool Snack

  • Each site operating an Afterschool Snack Program must be reviewed 2 times per year.
    • The first review must be completed during the first 4 weeks the snack program is in operation.
    • The second review can be any time during the remainder of the school year.
