Mental Health Awareness
Students, you should feel safe talking to someone about your mental health. Together with families and educators, Project AWARE is providing schools across Nebraska with tools to end the stigma on mental health, encourage conversation, and help young people thrive with healthy lives and healthy minds.
Mental Health Reminders:
Taking care of your mental health is just like taking care of your physical health.
Just like you’d go to the doctor for a sprain, it’s OK to see a professional for your mental health. Your brain is a part of your body too!
It’s not a weakness.
Needing help with your mental health isn’t a character flaw, and getting help doesn’t make you weak. In fact, it can make you stronger! It’s normal and healthy to seek treatment when you need it.
Anyone can struggle at any time.
Just like anyone can break a bone, anyone can find it hard to get through the day at any time in their lives. Anyone—from a teacher to a parent to a bigwig CEO—could be talking to someone about their mental health too!
You don’t need to be in a crisis to seek help.
Just like you see a doctor for a check-up, mental health check-ups are important too. You don’t have to wait for a disaster to talk to someone. Staying on top of your mental health is a good way to stay healthy.
You’re not alone, and there are people who want to help.
1 in 5 people in the U.S. report struggling with their mental health. And even more don’t report! Many people dedicate their lives to helping people just like you, oftentimes because they also know how it feels. You’re not a burden—although you’re unique, there are many who understand how you feel and are ready to listen.
Don’t suffer alone. If you believe you or someone you know might need help, call the Nebraska Family Helpline at (888) 866-8660. For any question, any time.
