Administrative Certificates and Permits

Administrative Certificates and permits allow you to manage or direct offices, departments or services of a Nebraska school system. To obtain an administrative certificate in Nebraska, you have to have completed a master’s degree program for Educational Leadership, Educational Administration or a subject area master’s degree with a plan to complete additional coursework.

Traditional Pathways

Standard Certificate -Have received a Master’s degree in Educational Administration, Educational Leadership or a subject area Master’s with completion of additional coursework.

Professional Certificate- Have received a minimum of 60 graduate hours in an approved Ed Administration or Ed Leadership program, completed an Ed Specialist or Doctorate program, OR a state approved program from the preparation of a superintendent.

Alternative Pathways

Alternative Program Administrative Permit

  • Pathway One– Have completed at least 50% of the credit hours required for completion of an approved program for curriculum supervisor or principal OR 75% of an approved program for an endorsement as superintendent.
  • Pathway Two– Have completed an approved program for endorsement and have held a regular administrative certificate that has not been expired more than 5 years.
  • Pathway Three– Have completed an approved program for endorsement and have held a regular administrative certificate that has been expired more than 5 years.
