Alternative Administrative Permit

General information

Who applies?

  • An alternative program administrative permit is for applicants who meet one of the following:
    • Have completed at least 50 percent (50%) of an approved program for an endorsement of principal or special education director or completed 75 percent (75%) of an approved program for an endorsement as superintendent.
    • Have completed an approved program for an administrative endorsement over 5 years from the date of the application or have held a regular administrative certificate that has expired or don’t have the experience to renew.

Where is it valid?

  • An alternative program administrative permit is valid in the school system that is requesting the issuance of the permit.

When does it expire?

  • An alternative program administrative permit expires September 30 in the second year following the year of issuance and may not be renewed.

What are the requirements for this permit?

  1. An application and fee in the TEACH system (Please note that registration for TEACH is required first; then an application can be submitted.)
  2. Fingerprints (required if someone has lived outside of Nebraska in the past five years and has never held a NE certificate or permit.)
  3. Official Transcripts will need to be requested from the applicant to be sent to us directly from the university. These can be sent to nde.tcertweb@nebraska.gov.
  4. Qualify for a standard teaching certificate.
  5. If you haven’t previously completed a program for administration:
    1. Submit an Alternative Program Teaching Permit form completed by a college or university.
      1. If completing a program through a Nebraska college, this form will be requested directly by our office.
      2. If completing a program out-of-state, the institution will need to fill this form out. They will also need to ensure they meet our endorsement requirements.
  6. If you have completed a program for administration: 
    1. Submit an Alternative Program Teaching-Admin Renewal Form completed by your district administrator.
  7. Have a job offer and a request from a Nebraska school system.

Renewals

An Alternative Program Administrative Permit may not be renewed.

Do I need a job to get this permit? 

  • Yes, in order to get an alternative program administrative permit, you do need a job.

Can I obtain an alternative program teaching permit with an out-of-state institution? 

  • Yes you are able to attend an out-of-state institution, however the out-of-state institution needs to meet our endorsement requirements and be willing to sign off on an alternative program administrative permit form. Check with the institution to be sure they are willing to fill out the appropriate paperwork needed.

I have held an administrative certificate in the past and just need to renew, what do I need to know? 

I accidently applied for the wrong certificate but it won’t let me change it. How do I fix this?
