This resource provides best practices and practical considerations to support schools and districts in developing and implementing effective Individual Reading Improvement Plans (IRIPs). Topics include using DIBELS 8th Edition data to inform instruction, planning and documenting interventions, monitoring student progress, partnering with families, and making responsive instructional decisions within an MTSS framework,
Individualized Reading Improvement Plan (IRIP) Template
The NDE has developed an optional IRIP template to support consistent documentation of student reading needs, intervention plans, progress monitoring, and family communication. Districts may use, modify, or incorporate the template into their local systems. The template was developed in partnership with Nebraska teachers, school leaders, ESUs, and literacy organizations to reflect best practices.

Developed by the UNL WORDS Project, this resource supports educators in using DIBELS 8th Edition data to identify students’ instructional needs, match students with targeted evidence-based instruction, and make informed decisions about when and how to intensify supports.
