NDE School Safety Suicide Prevention and Response resources support school districts’ efforts to protect the health and well-being of all students and the entire school community. Intentional actions to address suicidal concerns should be incorporated into each tier of the school’s MTSS framework.

Resources for School Staff
Since students spend a large majority of their time in school, staff have the opportunity to build protective factors and educate and intervene to prevent suicide. These resources enhance the school’s proactive suicide prevention efforts, including staff development opportunities and printable resources.
Resources for School Districts
A key to suicide prevention is having all school staff prepared to consistently intervene and respond when suicide concerns are evident. These resources assist schools in developing clear and proactive school policies and procedures to protect students at risk of suicide and to offer targeted support for the school community in the aftermath of a suicide.
Resources for Parents
Parents are often the first to notice changes in their child, or they may receive a call from the school about suicidal concerns and not know what to do. These resources provide information and guidance for parents related to suicide, with some available in both English and Spanish.
Resources for Students
Students often seek out friends with concerns rather than adults. They can play a critical role in suicide prevention when they are educated about warning signs and know what to do. These tools can be helpful for students in recognizing and intervening when suicide concerns are evident.
