Guidance for winter instruction hours requirement
Nebraska’s unpredictable weather can affect instructional hour requirements, so schools should add extra time to their calendars.
Options for districts at risk of falling short include:
1. Extend the School Day
2. Add Instructional Days
3. Utilize Remote Learning (if measurable, accessible, and led by a certified educator).
An affidavit may be submitted for unmet hours due to illness, severe weather, or facility issues, but this should be a last resort.

Guidance Document for the Financial Literacy Act
The Financial Literacy Act was signed into law on August 28, 2021. Its requirements, including the high school graduation requirement, took effect beginning in the 2023–2024 school year. The Act mandates that every student complete at least one five-credit high school course in personal finance or financial literacy before graduation. This requirement is applicable to students graduating in 2024 and beyond. See the guidance for this act written by the Social Studies Education team: Financial Literacy Act Guidance
