11:15 AM What I Really Need Right Now

This keynote is an extension of Sydney’s popular TED talk focused on supporting the emotional well-being of teachers who work with students experiencing trauma. Teachers give their hearts, minds, and spirits in support of their students, and that comes with stress, secondary trauma, and compassion fatigue. Teachers cannot pour from an empty cup, and as we acknowledge this challenge facing the teaching profession, we can do more to counter it with self-care, resilience, and connection.

Featured Speaker:
Sydney Jensen, Lincoln High Teacher, Nebraska | 2019 Nebraska Teacher of the Year

1:00 PM Leading the Most Anxious Generation in the Most Anxious Times

VUCA (Volatility, Uncertainty, Complexity, Ambiguity) has been a business term for decades. Today—we see its relevance for education, youth work and families.

The COVID-19 pandemic stares a generation in the face and we’ve never seen anything like it, except in the movies. Generation Z (our kids) was already the most anxious generation, and now they live in a most anxious time. This session will offer best practices, creative ideas and focus on how to communicate with and lead this generation in such times.
