BOARD WEIGHS IN ON LEGISLATIVE PROPOSALS
The State Board of Education took stances on a number of education-related bills proposed by the Nebraska Legislature. Board members voted to oppose three bills and support 16 bills introduced in the Education Committee.
NEBRASKA UNVEILS OER COMMONS HUB
Nebraska is furthering its commitment to equitable access to open educational resources and services with the launch of the Nebraska OER Hub, a collaboration between the Educational Service Unit Coordinating Council and the Nebraska Department of Education. READING IMPROVEMENT ACT UPDATE
The board received an update on how the Nebraska Department of Education has been implementing the newly-passed Reading Improvement Act. Nebraska READS provides tools and resources to support high-quality literacy instruction for all Nebraska students. The initiative highlights policies, procedures, and practices that guide the selection and implementation of literacy practices and evidence-based interventions, and assists districts as they build family, community, and school partnerships to help students become successful readers, setting them up to learn, graduate, and succeed.
Reading Improvement Act Update
NDE AND NAPE/AFSCME AGREEMENT APPROVED
The State Board of Education approved the Nebraska Association of Public Employees (NAPE) contract agreement for Nebraska Department of Education employees for the years 2019-2020 and 2020-2021.
The next regularly scheduled meeting of the State Board of Education will be held on
Friday, March 8, 2019 at 9:00 a.m. at the Nebraska State Office Building.
A work session will be held on Thursday, March 7, 2019 at 2:00 p.m.
