Exempt (Home) School Program

Rules and Regulations

  • Rule 12 (effective date - May 3, 2010)
    • Rule 12 affidavits state that the requirements for school approval and accreditation required by law interfere with the decisions of the parents or legal guardians in directing their child's education.
  • Rule 13 (effective date - May 3, 2010)
    • Rule 13 affidavits state that the requirements for school approval and accreditation required by law violate the parents' or legal guardians' sincerely held religious beliefs.

Summary of Rule Changes (effective May 3, 2010)

Rule 12 and Rule 13 each incorporates the following changes to comply with current state statutes and to align with current practices:

  • clarifying filing procedures in the areas of single parent filing, reporting change of address, reporting school district and county of residence, and delaying entry until age seven;
  • changing the due date for renewal filers from August 1 to July 15;
  • revising the birth certificate filing information (Section 009) per Section 43-2007 R.R.S. (as amended by LB 549, 2009);
  • adding “Dual (Part-Time) Enrollment” information (Section 012) per Section 79-2,136 R.R.S.; and
  • miscellaneous non-substantive wording changes.
