Nebraska Schools of Distinction

The recognition is grounded in the following principles:
High Bar, Exemplary Standard – Schools either meet the established standard for distinction or they do not. There are no levels, tiers, or rankings.
Application-Based and Verified – Schools actively apply for recognition by demonstrating how they meet the criteria. All applications are reviewed and validated by NDE to ensure consistency and credibility.
Overview
The Nebraska Schools of Distinction is a statewide, application‑based recognition developed by the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) to honor schools demonstrating exceptional coherence, implementation, and impact in advancing Nebraska’s priorities for student learning.
This recognition is designed to identify schools that have established strong, aligned systems across instruction, leadership, and continuous improvement, resulting in meaningful outcomes for students.
The designation emphasizes:
- Coherent schoolwide systems
- Evidence‑based instructional practices
- Strategic leadership alignment
- Sustained implementation over time
This recognition does not rank schools or replace accountability systems. Instead, it recognizes schools that meet a clearly defined, rigorous standard of practice.
