World Language Standards Revision

Nebraska Revised Statute 79-760.01 requires the Nebraska State Board of Education to “adopt measurable academic content standards for at least the grade levels required for statewide assessment.” In addition, the Nebraska Department of Education has developed content area standards for fine arts, physical education, and world languages. These content area standards provide a framework for quality teaching and learning for all content areas.

Standards Revision Timeline

Nebraska’s Standards for World Languages are being revised to ensure they reflect the current demands of college, career, and civic readiness and meet the needs of today’s students. The process began in February 2025 and a draft of the recommended updates was issued in March 2026. Members of the public are welcome to provide input at nde.worldlanguagesstandardsinput@nebraska.gov or contact chrystal.liu@nebraska.gov. A final version of the revised standards is expected to be completed by Fall 2026.
