Nebraska Academy of Sciences Scholarships for High School Seniors

Applications due March 1, 2027. Please visit the website for application requirements.

• Loren Eiseley Memorial Scholarship: Loren Eiseley was a scientist, author, and one of Nebraska’s great twentieth century naturalists. This $500 scholarship is available to any Nebraska high school senior who have been accepted to an accredited college or university.
• Robert S. Kubicek Memorial Scholarship: This $1000 scholarship is available to any Nebraska high school senior with an interest in business and the environment.
• Marian O. and Bertrand Schultz Scholarship and Marian Schultz Memorial Environmental Scholarship: This $750 scholarship is available to any Nebraska high school senior with special interest in prairie and soil conservation.

Young Nebraska Scientists

At YNS camps, Nebraska students learn through engaging, active-learning style experiences and experience life on a college campus.

YNS also sponsors summer research internships in university laboratories for high school students. The high school research program offers students an extended, paid taste of the camaraderie and focus of a university research team. High school researchers work alongside mentors and other members of a research team to accomplish their research tasks. (from YNS webpage)

National Youth Science Camp

Hosted in Monongahela National Forest in West Virginia since 1963, the National Youth Science Camp (NYSCamp) is a residential science, technology, engineering, arts, and mathematics (STEAM) program designed to honor and challenge some of the nation’s rising leaders and provide them with opportunities to engage with STEAM professionals and participate in exciting outdoor activities. Typically, two delegates are selected to attend camp from each state and the District of Columbia.

Greater Nebraska Science and Engineering Fair

A regional fair that includes the eastern portion of Nebraska bound on the east by the Missouri River and on the west by Clay County. Anyone in grades 6-12 attending school in this region is eligible to compete.

University of Nebraska Medical Center Young Scientist Research Workshop

8th – 12th graders can learn to design and perform molecular biology experiments, analyze & interpret data.

Women In Science Conference

This annual conference is designed for high school science teachers and their students, encouraging young women to explore careers in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) by engaging with successful women scientists, participating in hands-on workshops, and learning about college STEM opportunities.
