Elementary world language programs boost student achievement by improving evaluative functions, abstract thinking, and mental flexibility. In addition, world language programs promote the ability to communicate within another culture with understanding of that culture. The level of student attainment in proficiency, improvement in first language literacy, and cultural awareness will correspond with the depth of elementary programming.
Middle School Education:
Middle school programs can build on elementary programming or introduce students to a language for the first time. This is a critical time for world language study as it gives students better preparation for high school success by engaging the cognitive language processes at an optimal point in development. It is also coincides with the middle level approach to the introduction to college and career planning.
High School Education:
High school programs must complete the process of becoming college, career, and civic ready in world language study.
