Elizabeth Dunn

In her fourteenth year of teaching, Elizabeth Dunn teaches 6th grade earth science at Nebraska City Middle School. Prior to this position, she taught American history, Western Hemisphere studies, and language arts. Elizabeth’s passion for STEM education is fostered by her involvement with NASA Nebraska’s Space Ambassadors and new this year, Nebraska Department of Education’s STEM Fellows program. This year she is able to offer a STEM-based course titled Mission to Mars to her sixth grade students. The course is an enriching program of both hands-on STEM activities, space education, and the history and future of space exploration.

Elizabeth has always sought out opportunities to build her skill set as a STEM educator, including training at both Kennedy and Johnson Space Centers, Nebraska Educational Technology Association’s annual conference, and Nebraska Association of Teachers of Science annual conference. The summer of 2016’s work the Department of Education offered Elizabeth the opportunity to work with educators throughout the state of Nebraska and from all content areas to analyze and develop STEM opportunities for students. The knowledge and connections gained from her experiences have been taken back to her district to share with stakeholders in her building, throughout the district, and with the school board.

Elizabeth is a long-time resident of southeast Nebraska. She is a graduate of the University of Nebraska at Lincoln and a current graduate student at the University of Nebraska at Omaha. She and her husband are raising their two children in the Nebraska City area.
