Nebraska Students Awarded Seals of Biliteracy

The Nebraska Department of Education and the Nebraska Seal of Biliteracy Advisory Committee are proud to announce that 122 Seals of Biliteracy have been awarded to 118 Nebraska students in August of 2025. These prestigious awards recognize high school students who have achieved a high level of proficiency in English and at least one other language.

The Nebraska Seal of Biliteracy honors students who have embraced this vital skill, demonstrating their proficiency based on the Nebraska World Language Standards, which emphasize communication, cultures, connections, communities, and cognition within a language other than English.

For the August 2025 awards, students showcased their knowledge in Chinese, French, French, German, Somali Maxaa, and Tamil.

Nebraska Wesleyan University is proud to recognize the Nebraska Seal of Biliteracy as part of its commitment to fostering students’ continued language growth. Beginning in the 2025–26 academic year, students entering NWU who have earned the Seal will be placed into more advanced courses and awarded university credit in recognition of their demonstrated proficiency. This support affirms NWU’s dedication to valuing multilingual skills and providing equitable opportunities for students to advance their academic and professional success.
