USDA, National Dairy Council, NFL and GENYOUth Grant

The U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA), National Dairy Council, National Football League and GENYOUth have partnered via Fuel Up to Play 60 to award $35 million in grants to improve food service equipment and upgrade infrastructure critical to building healthy schools and communities.

The grants will assist School Nutrition Directors in the purchase of equipment that will provide students access to healthier meals that meet the updated national nutrition standards, with more whole grains, fruits, vegetables, lean protein and low-fat dairy, and less sodium and fat.

For grants at more than $5,000, schools and districts can apply through their State Agency and get more information at the USDA’s Equipment Grant page

NSLP Mini-Grants

Nebraska Team Nutrition has received a two-year grant (Team Nutrition 2014-2016) from U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) to improve the health and nutrition in children. The Healthy Hunger-Free Kids Act of 2010 (HHFKA) requires all school districts to establish and implement local school wellness policies that meet minimum standards designed to promote sound nutrition, student health, reduce childhood obesity, and provide transparency to the public on the school nutrition environment. 

During the funding period (2014-2016) $500 mini-grant opportunities are available to assist schools and institutes that participate in NSLP to support the following activities:

  1. Local School Wellness Policy: Applications Available Now for School Year 2015-16 Apply Today! The grant funds will support schools and institutes to work toward implementation of sustainable strategies of the local school wellness policy plans targeting major components: 1) Nutrition, 2) Nutrition Education, and Physical Activity.  Schools will be encouraged to select at least one action plan that addresses each component.


Applicants must complete all sections of the application and supporting documents including:

CACFP Mini-Grant

  1. NAP SACC: Applications Available Now Apply Today! Child Care Centers participating in Nebraska in Nutrition and Physical Activity Self-Assessment for Child Care Centers (NAP SACC) are eligible to submit a request for reimbursement of funds (up to $200) to purchase nutrition and physical activity incentive items. Centers may submit the application once the Go NAP SACC Post Self-Assessment and Feedback Survey found online at: have been completed.  Applications are received on an ongoing basis and can be submitted between April 1, 2015 and July 1, 2016.  All funds and scheduled activities must be completed by September 28, 2016.
