Nutrition education activities with milk Nutrition Objectives
Nutrition education activities with milk
Nutrition Objectives
-
Recognize that dairy products come from the milk of cows and goats.
-
Recognize that milk changes to become other foods – butter, yogurt, cheeses, ice cream.
-
Recognize that children need three servings of dairy products each day.
-
Recognize that there are different levels of fat in milk available at the grocery store.
Activities
1. Discuss where milk comes from.
2. Plan cooking activities using milk to make butter, yogurt, cheeses and ice cream. Do the foods we make taste different from those we buy at the store?
3. Have a tasting party using whole, two per cent, on per cent and skim milk. Do the children notice any differences in the milks? An 8 oz. glass of whole milk has 8 grams of fat; two per cent milk has 5 grams; one per cent milk has 3 grams; and skim milk has less than 1 gram of fat.
Cooking experiences
The children can help make butter and ice cream.
