** The due date is when all tagging is to be finished, animal information should be submitted online via the Showstock Manager database, DNA collected and completed DNA Envelopes should be in the possession of the FFA Advisor. DNA Envelopes must be mailed to AKSARBEN Livestock Show no more than five days past this deadline without exception. The address for mailing is:

2019 State Fair Livestock Nomination Proposal

County Staff/FFA Advisor Responsibilities:

  1. Request DNA collectors from the 4-H/FFA (Ryan Hassebrook) office.
  2. Distribute DNA collectors to families.
  3. Order EID tags from a tag supplier. Note: Exhibitors will need a premises ID prior to ordering 840 tags. While any tag supplier can be used, here are a couple options:

  1. Collect market beef DNA collectors by April 15. Copy each market beef DNA collector for county/chapter records and mail all completed DNA collectors to the AKSARBEN, postmarked by April 20.
  2. Collect market swine, market lamb, and market goat DNA collectors by June 15. Remind families that all breeding beef, breeding sheep and breeding doe online nominations are due by June 15. Copy each DNA collector for county/chapter records and mail all completed DNA collectors to the AKSARBEN, postmarked by June 20.
  3. Review all livestock entries submitted online by the exhibitors in your county or FFA Chapter. Check for complete animal nomination requirements per each species identification guidelines prior to validating each entry. Validate each completed entry after review. For any entries that require an edit, please note the edit in the nomination database.
  4. Inform families that all nominations have been uploaded and are available on ShoWorks for State Fair pre‐entries during the registration timeframe.

    1. Exhibitors collect the hair samples and fill out the DNA collector AND enter the required information from the DNA collectors for their market animals and breeding nominations in to the State Fair online nomination database by the required deadlines.  Each DNA sample will have a fee that will be collected during the online nomination process
  2. Exhibitors will turn in the DNA collectors to the county Extension office/FFA Advisor.
    1. Exhibitors showing market animals at State Fair or AKSARBEN must have a signed and sealed official DNA collector with hair samples for DNA verification turned into their county office/FFA Advisor AND the required information submitted in the State Fair online nomination database by the appropriate deadline listed in the table.  NOTE:  Both the actual DNA collector (hair sample) and the online submission must be completed by the deadline in order for the entry to be valid; incomplete entries will not be allowed to exhibit.
    2. Exhibitors showing breeding beef, breeding sheep, breeding does and breeding swine at State Fair will be nominated with an online breeding nomination. Families will review each species identification guidelines in order to have the breeding nomination contain all necessary information for State Fair eligibility for their respected organization. Families will need to have completed the online breeding nomination by the June 15 nomination deadline.   NOTE:  The online submission must be completed by the deadline in order for the entry to be valid; incomplete entries will not be allowed to exhibit.
    3. Note: County paper affidavits for State Fair/AKSARBEN livestock entries is not a valid nomination and will not be accepted.
  3. Families will have until the nomination deadline to edit their information.
  4. Exhibitors will select which animal entries they have chosen to show at State Fair from a dropdown menu in ShoWorks. All validated animals will be automatically listed as a choice option for pre-entry registration in ShoWorks.

Terminal Show Information

Beef: The Nebraska State Fair is a terminal show for the Grand and Reserve Champion Market Beef only. All other Market Beef can be sold on a voluntary basis by FFA members.
Lambs: The Nebraska State Fair is a terminal show for the Grand and Reserve Champion Market Lambs only. All other Market Lambs can be sold on a voluntary basis by FFA members.
Goats: The Nebraska State Fair is a terminal show for the Grand and Reserve Champion Market Goats only. All other Market Goats can be sold on a voluntary basis by FFA members.
Swine: All Market Swine, whether eligible or ineligible, must be forwarded to slaughter as this is a terminal show.
  • All market hogs will be shipped on Monday of the fair.
  • Gilts in the breeding show will not be shipped.

Elite Showman Competition

The Nebraska Department of Agriculture, along with the Rural Radio Network, will be hosting the 13th Annual Elite Showman Competition on Saturday, September 1, 2018, at the Nebraska State Fair.

The competition is open to both 4-H and FFA youth.

Dairy Judging Information

The 2018 State FFA dairy judging contest will be held on Saturday, August 25, 2018, at Grand Island in conjunction with the Nebraska State Fair and is organized by Mike Roeber of Northeast Community College.

FFA/4-H Youth Dairy Show

The 4-H and FFA Dairy shows have been combined into a Youth Dairy Show managed by the Nebraska State Fair. See the 4-H/FFA Dairy Show Information on the State Fair site.

NOTICE: You can register Static Exhibits August 13-22.

To allow the most accurate entry of static exhibits (Ag Mechanics, Horticulture, and Crops), FFA Advisors will be given more time to register these items.  Because of this, you will have two invoices, one from Livestock and another from static registration.  Please keep both invoices and submit only one check.  Payments must be postmarked by Friday, August 24.

Directions to register entries online:

  1. Click the following link to open in a new window: Online Registration

  2. Choose your school name; your password is your FFA Chapter Number (i.e. NE0001).

  3. Click “Begin adding Exhibitors and their Entries.”

  4. Enter the exhibitor’s name, select the “this is a new exhibitor button, click “continue.”

  5. Create a password for the exhibitor.  (Each exhibitor will have their own password, but it is recommended to make them all the same.  Single numbers or letters are accepted (i.e. “1” or “a”). You will need this password again when you add Static exhibits after August 13. Also enter the exhibitor’s shirt size and school grade. If you have special stalling requests, you may enter them here. You must indicate which 4-H club or family you would like to stall with. Click “continue” and then “continue” again.

  6. Choose a Department, then a Division.  (Livestock is open through Aug. 10, Static is open Aug. 13-22)

  7. Complete the required information.  (Bold words indicate required information; other fields are optional.) Click “Add to Cart.”

  8. Add entries as needed.  To add more exhibitors, click “Exhibitor Registration” on the left.

  9. Click “Additional Items” on the left.

  10. Choose the correct amount of:

    – Beef Chute Permits.

    – Exhibitor 11-Day Admission Badge (optional; exhibitors will receive a free pass for FFA days).

    – Family Member Daily Gate Passes (Exhibitors and Advisors will receive a free passes for FFA days).

    – Vehicle Stickers (For closer, more covenient parking.)

    – Tag Orders (This is the only opportunity to order tags.)

  11. Choose ONE “REQUIRED CHAPTER FEE” for the chapter.  (It doesn’t matter under which student it is registered.  This chapter fee is required for your students to participate in the fair.)

  12. Also enter the number of Pork BBQ meal tickets your chapter needs. They are free!

  13. You can click “Save Cart “on the bottom left if you wish to make more entries later.

  14. PLEASE NOTE: Livestock entries must be checked-out by August 10, not just in your cart! Due to stalling issues, we cannot honor livestock “in your cart” if you wait until the static exhibit deadline. Complete the steps below for both the August 10 and August 22 deadlines.

  15. Click “Edit Cart,” then “Check-out” when you are ready to submit your entries.  Exhibitors are not officially entered until you Check-Out!

  16. Type “yes” into the box and then click “Submit”.

  17. Click “Print Detailed Receipt” (We recommend emailing yourself a copy of the receipt, too.)

  18. Send the following four materials to Kent Zeller (address is on detailed receipt):
    – Copy of the detailed receipt (ONLY the LAST PAGE is required)
    – IAFE (Ethics) Agreement (livestock entries only, one per student)
    – Quality Assurance Forms (livestock entries only, see info via link)
    – Check for total amount due

  19. All livestock entries are due by Midnight CST on Aug. 10; Receipt, Check, IAFE, and QA materials must be postmarked by Friday, Aug. 24.  (Please see the note above for Static Exhibits.)
