FFA State Convention

Nebraska FFA members and chapters will be honored for their accomplishments at the 91st Nebraska FFA State Convention held April 3-5, 2019.  The convention will be at Pinnacle Bank Arena, the hotels in Lincoln’s Haymarket, and the University of Nebraska-Lincoln East Campus.

FFA members, advisors and guests can support chapters and members receiving awards and listen to motivational speakers and state officer retiring addresses during convention sessions; be engaged in leadership workshops; watch students compete in Leadership Development Events and attend the annual Expo and Career Fair.  Students also participate in select state Career Development Events held on UNL’s East Campus.

Important Note: Parents and guests may work with the local FFA advisor to pre-purchase registration passes which are necessary to attend events held at Pinnacle Bank Arena.  Registration passes will also be available to purchase on-site. Be aware that on-site passes may only be purchased with check or credit credit card. No cash will be accepted. Children in 6th grade or younger may receive a child button at no cost.

Convention registration opens on March 4th @ 8:00 AM Central Time and closes on March 20th @ 5:00 PM Central Time.

Free Shuttle Information

Free shuttle service running continuously between Pinnacle Bank Arena (stops just east of PBA in front of the post office) and stops in two locations on the UNL East Campus Loop (see maps above) using Arrow Stage Lines school-type busses.  This service is provided for members, advisors and guests during select times of the convention.

Wednesday, April 3: 9:00 a.m. – 8:30 p.m.
Thursday, April 4: 6:30 a.m. – 6:30 p.m.
Friday, April 5: 11:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m.

Free busing is also provided for those who are attending the industry tours on Friday, April 5. Pick-up and drop-off will occur from “The Cube” across the street from Pinnacle Bank Arena. Pre-registration is required to attend these tours.


Parking
Haymarket: Free parking is provided in “Festival Parking” north of Pinnacle Bank Arena next to Haymarket Park (see map above).  Guests may walk across the pedestrian bridge to access to Pinnacle Bank Arena and the Haymarket venues.  There are also many paid parking garages available in the Haymarket.

UNL East Campus: Parking permits are required to park on East Campus and may be purchased during registration.  See the map above for available parking lots

IMPORTANT INFORMATION!

All students attending the 2019 Nebraska FFA Convention should have signed permission forms by their guardians.  By registering for and attending the convention, each FFA Advisor/Agricultural Education Teacher agrees to collect, verify the completion of, and bring with him/her the appropriate forms for every student attending the convention as a representative of their chapter/school.  Teachers should keep these forms with them in the event of an incident while in Lincoln.

    • Personal Conduct Agreement – Required for all Students – Coming soon!
    • UNL Campus Recreation Guardian Form – Required for all Students attending UNL’s “Big Red Rock the Rec” event on Thursday Evening – Coming soon!
    • Industry Tours Waiver – Required for all students to attend a tour on Friday. This waiver will be given to event staff at the time of departure for the tour. – Coming soon!
    • Living to Serve Permission Form – Required for all Students participating in the Living to Serve Service Project on Friday. This form will be given to event staff at the event on Friday. – Coming soon!

Order the FFA State Convention shirts while registering for
Convention during the Convention Registration process March 4-20!

 

Advisors will pick up the entire chapter’s shirt order when they arrive at State Convention at the FFA Alumni Council table, on the end of the registration table at Pinnacle Bank Arena – Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM to 9:00 PM and Thursday morning from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM.  The t-shirt cost will be added to your convention registration invoice.

FFA Expo & Career Fair Information

Wednesday and Thursday of Convention, 3rd Floor concourse at PBA is set up as the FFA Expo is for FFA members, advisors and guests to interact with nearly 40 agriculture organization, colleges, commodity groups and vendors. Friday of Convention, 3rd Floor concourse at PBA is set up as the Career Fair and is for FFA members to interact with over 40 agriculture businesses and industry professionals looking to make connections with future interns and employees.

FFA Expo and Career Fair Scavenger Hunt: Students will be using an app called GooseChase to record their engagement in learning more about each exhibitor and how that connects back to their classroom and/or future business or career aspirations. Prizes will be available to students who complete missions for the FFA Expo and separately for the Career Fair. Mission completion checkpoint will be with CASNR/FFA Foundation Staff at the entrance of the FFA Expo & Career Fair on the 3rd Floor concourse.

Advisors should have students download the GooseChase app on their mobile device prior to attending the FFA Expo and/or Career Fair. There will be different exhibitors for each event, the Career Fair and the FFA Expo. Students should plan to attend the FFA Expo on Wednesday or Thursday and then return on Friday to visit with new exhibitors at the Career Fair.

 

Search for this FREE App in the App Store:

Once the App is successfully downloaded, search “Nebraska FFA”. You will find the following two games. Tap on the 2019 Nebraska FFA Expo game and select the blue “Join” button. Then select the “Start” button. Repeat for the 2019 Nebraska FFA Career Fair game. Now you will be ready to start completing missions soon as you arrive at convention!

 

 AFNR Career Pathway Experience – During the Career Fair!

The Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources Career Pathway Experience will once again be hosted at State Convention.  This event will be held on Friday, April 5th on the 3rd concourse in Pinnacle Bank Arena in the east hallway. This event serves as an extension of the Career Fair; giving students a hands-on approach to explore the seven Agriculture, Food and Natural Resources (AFNR) Career Pathways including: agribusiness systems, animal systems, environmental service & natural resources systems, food products and processing systems, plant systems, and power/structural & technical systems.  This will be a great opportunity for students to engage in work done by leaders in Extension and the agricultural industry.

Current senior FFA members are invited to participate in a special signing ceremony that will honor their future plans by “committing” to the next step of their educational career at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln.  All seniors planning to attend UNL are invited to sign this evening, regardless of their chosen major.  Meet and hear from UNL leaders, including chancellor-level leaders, deans and professors who are excited for you to come to campus this fall.

This is a festive celebration and all are welcome!  We hope to see younger FFA member cheer on the seniors who will be walking across the stage and signing this evening.  Parents, advisors and supporters are also encouraged to attend and celebrate the commitment of the new Huskers!

 
To participate, please have your FFA advisor register you for this event.  He/she will need to know your t-shirt size and intended major (undeclared is fine, too).  Please dress casually (in fact, we hope you’re dressed for the Rock the Rec event that follows the signing ceremony!).

Industry Tour Information

Industry tours are open to all Nebraska FFA members, advisors, and chaperons to attend on the morning of Friday, April 5th!  Contact Caitlin Davidson at caitlin.davidson@nebraska.gov with any questions.
 
    • All tours begin and end at the Farm Bureau “The Cube” event across the street from Pinnacle Bank Arena at the posted times below.
    • All tours are $5/ticket and require pre-registration.
    • Students must be accompanied by an adult chaperone from their chapter in order to attend.

Celebrate with the Stars!

The Lincoln Stars hockey team is excited to host Nebraska FFA at the Stars. Date and time TBA.

Tickets will be available for purchase through convention registration at a cost of $15.00. The association will receive a portion of the profit per ticket back as a donation from the Lincoln Stars. In addition, ticket holders will receive free skating at designated times during the convention with their ticket stub.

2019 Nebraska FFA Living to Serve

Union Bank & Trust invites Nebraska FFA members to participate in the 2019 Nebraska FFA Living to Serve service project. The project selected this year is a meal packaging event sponsored by Union Bank & Trust, coordinated by the Nebraska FFA Foundation and Nebraska FFA Association, where we’ll pack over 50,000 meals for the Food Bank of Lincoln and the Food Bank for the Heartland. This is a community need that falls within the focus area of Hunger, Health and Nutrition. This volunteer event will take place on Friday, April 5th, at the Pinnacle Bank Arena on the 5th Concourse. We encourage everyone in your chapter to sign up for this great experience to come together and help those in need.

What is the delegate process?
Each year at the annual Nebraska FFA state convention, delegates meet to discuss delegate issues and vote to take action on the issues. Delegates represent the interest of FFA members in their chapter and work for the benefit of and to determine the progress of the entire Nebraska FFA Association.

How many delegates are there?
Each chapter may send two delegates to engage in the Nebraska FFA delegate process.

How are delegates selected?
Each chapter determines who will represent their chapter in the delegate process. What’s important to remember is that the delegates must attend each of the events designated as delegate events at the state convention. Delegates must be well-spoken, educated on the issues, interested in representing other members and available to attend the delegate events at the state convention.

How are delegate issues selected for the process at the state convention?
Chapters may submit proposals to the state association by February 15 of the convention year. All proposals will be assessed by the Nebraska FFA state officer team and FFA Board of Directors to be ranked in order of priority. The FFA Board of Directors will have the final ruling on which issues to advance to the delegate body at the state convention.

What happens once the delegate issues are identified?
Once the delegate issues are identified, chapters will be asked to submit the names of their two delegates. Webinar training will be offered for all delegates to prepare them with information to share about each issue at March chapter meetings prior to the state convention, and all delegates will be assigned to the identified delegate issues.

Delegates will attend two sessions at state convention. The first session will be a committee meeting where committees of delegates will review the issues and offer recommendations. Recommendations will be presented at the second delegate business session and all recommendations will be forwarded to the adult FFA Board of Directors. The adult FFA Board of Directors will review all recommendations at their summer meeting and determine which actions to take based on the student recommendations. Chapters will be informed of any changes that result from the work of both the delegates and the board of directors.

    • NIFA Projects Documentation – Recipients of NIFA grants must complete (through the AET) Form I Activities, Form I Indicators, and each of the components on the activity page itself (name, description, goals, plan of action, results, and photo descriptions within the National Chapter Application. At least five photos must be uploaded. The chapter POA on the AET must be updated to reflect actual expenses. The Results/Evaluation section will be used on stage at the state convention, along with three or four of the uploaded photos.
