Nontraditional Clusters

Nontraditional Occupations or fields of work are occupations in which individuals from one gender comprise less than 25 percent of the total individuals employed in each such occupation or field of work. Examples include careers in computer science, technology and other emerging high skill occupations.

The Carl D. Perkins Career & Technical Education Act of 2006 focuses on encouraging the participation and completion in career areas underrepresented for a specific gender. In the table below, cluster areas marked with “F” are considered nontraditional for females. Cluster areas marked with “M” are considered nontraditional for males.
