The Nebraska Department of Education is seeking a one-year extension pursuant to Section 421(b) of the General Education Provisions Act (GEPA) (20 U.S.C. 1225(b) the “Tydings Amendment) from the US Department of Education for the Striving Readers Grant. This extension will allow for increased student achievement in the area of literacy through completion of the following grant activities: Distributing more widely the Nebraska Literacy Plan, the Student Friendly Standards, and the Early Childhood Section; Developing an interactive website with information tailored to educators, families, providers, and the general public; Continue with the work of the Literacy Team, including the ongoing revision and improvement of the literacy plan; Developing staff development modules to be utilized in schools to help administrators with the implementation of the plan; Continuing to build and strengthen the partnerships within our state to increase our capacity and impact. The new ending date will be September 30, 2013.
