Fred Meyer of St. Paul was re-elected as President for a fifth term and Kandy Imes of Gering was re-elected as Vice President for a fourth term to lead the eight member constitutionally established State Board of Education.
Meyer and Imes were re-elected unanimously to lead the State Board of Education during the board’s meeting Thursday in Lincoln.
“I’m looking forward to continuing the work of the State Board of Education in 2008,” Meyer said. “We have made great strides in building bridges with our education partners in Nebraska. I will continue to build relationships with other policy partners and encourage educators to speak with one voice.”
As president, Meyer said, he will continue to work to expand the educational opportunities offered to all Nebraska students by continuing the implementation of Essential Education.
Imes, who was re-elected vice president, said she was honored by the confidence that her fellow board members have in her leadership. “I will strive to move forward our agenda with pre-kindergarten through 12th grade. I look forward to working with Fred to further enhance the working relationship the board has with the Nebraska Department of Education, school districts, and our policy partners.”
