Born April 1, 1947 in Callaway, NE. Graduated from Kearney State College (B.A. Elementary Education), 1969. Married Steven B. Timm, August 10, 1969. Daughter: Shawn. 

Occupations: Former Kindergarten Teacher and K-12 Art Teacher, Education Coordinator for Centenary United Methodist Church, Retired Administrator of Beatrice Family Resource Center, August, 2008. Member and Past Chair Region V Behavioral Health Advisory Committee, Southeast Nebraska Early Childhood Professional Development Planning Team. Past Involvement in Habitat for Humanity Gage County, Beatrice Children's Theatre Board, Community Players Board, Beatrice Chamber of Commerce and Beatrice Rotary (Paul Harris Fellow).

Mark Quandahl

Earned a Bachelor's degree in Journalism and Political Science from the University of Nebraska in 1984. A 1987 graduate of the University of Nebraska College of Law. 

Involved in several community activities and organizations including the Boy Scouts and the Merrymakers, a group which provides musical entertainment to senior citizens. Served as a Senator in Nebraska's Unicameral Legislature, representing the 31st Legislative District in Omaha from 1999-2005. Admitted to practice before Nebraska and Iowa State and Federal Courts and the United States Supreme Court. Member of the National Association of Retail Collection Attorneys, the Commercial law League of Nebraska, the Phi Delta Phi legal honor society, and is a Certified Consumer Credit Executive. Chairman, Legislative Committee.

Graduate of Paola High School, 1959; University of Kansas (B.S. in secondary education), 1963; University of Nebraska-Lincoln (M.S. in elementary education), 1968. Married Max D. Larsen, Dec. 22, 1962; three children: Michael, Paul and Charles. Community  volunteer. Former: public high school social studies teacher.

Re-elected to serve a second 4-year term November 2012.  I am honored to have served as a constitutional officer for the State of Nebraska for the last 4 years.   My goals on the Nebraska State Board of Education are to:

  • Raise the high school graduation rate in Nebraska to 90%

  • See to it that every student receives the best possible education so as to compete in our global economy.

  • Work to improve opportunities for children of color and their families so that they grow up to live in prosperity, in good health, with excellent educations, in clean environments, and immersed in their rich traditions.

Bachelors of Science in Education; Texas State University formerly Southwest Texas State.  I am employed at Creighton University Health Sciences, Center for Promoting Health and Health Equality.  I am a member of the Executive Committee for the Nebraska State Democratic Party; and the Douglas County Democrats.

Born May 20, 1954 in Grand Island. Married to Tim O'Holleran; five children: Colleen, Jack, Meghan, Brigid, and Danny. Graduated with High Distinction from the University of Nebraska at Lincoln 1976 (Dual Matriculate:  Bachelor of Arts in English and teaching degree in English with Reading Endorsement). Taught English for the following schools:  Westside Community Schools in Omaha; Kapaun Mount Carmel in Wichita Kansas; and Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte.

Served as President of Nebraska Medical Association Alliance; President of North Platte Public Schools Board of Education; Vice President of Lincoln County Friends of the Library; and Advocacy Chairman of Lincoln County Relay for Life. Served on the North Platte Public Schools Foundation and the Nebraska Council on Teacher Education. 

Presently serving as Board member and Treasurer on the Nebraska Foundation for the Humanities; member on the National Association of State Boards of Education (NASBE) Government Affairs Committee; and a member on the Membership/Marketing Committee for the American Medical Association Alliance.

Commissioner Roger Breed

Dr. Roger Breed has served as Nebraska's Commissioner of Education since March 2009. He is committed to improving student achievement and developing a statewide system of support for students and schools. He works closely with state and federal education stakeholders in this quest.  Prior to his appointment as Commissioner, Dr. Breed served as an educator for forty years in Nebraska. Additionally, he has provided state-wide leadership as an active participant on numerous committees and boards in the areas of state standards, assessment programs, personnel selection and certification, and other significant school policy issues. He was a member of the Nebraska State Accreditation Committee, a member and past chair of the Executive Board of the Nebraska Council of School Administrators, a member and past president of the Greater Nebraska Schools Association, and a present co-chair of the Nebraska P-16 Initiative. From 1991 to 2009, Dr. Breed served as the superintendent of the Elkhorn Public Schools. In 2007, Dr. Breed was recognized by the NCSA as Nebraska's Superintendent of the Year.
