In 2008, teams representing school districts, Educational Service Units and universities/state colleges participated in the English Language Learner Leadership Institute. The goal of the Institute was to integrate training in Balanced Leadership and Classroom Instruction that Works with English Language Learners. Some team members formed a Design Team and developed several documents; including a Nebraska ELL Program Guide and a Book Study Guide.
In 2010, twenty three people became certified professional developers in Classroom Instruction that Works with English Language Learners after working for several months with Jane Hill, the book’s author. These trainers are available to provide staff development for school districts across the state on the Marzano strategies and how they can be utilized specifically for the ELL student population.
