EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING ACT LOAN FORGIVENESS PROGRAM

EXCELLENCE IN TEACHING ACT FORGIVABLE LOANS - For Nebraska residents currently enrolled in an undergraduate or graduate teacher education program at an eligible Nebraska institution.

In April In April 2009, the Nebraska Legislature approved LB547, revised the Attracting Excellence to Teaching Program created in 2006 to become the Excellence in Teaching Act; granting the Nebraska Department of Education (NDE) and the State Board of Education the authority to adopt and promulgate rules and regulations to carry out the Act, which includes the Attracting Excellence to Teaching Program and the Enhancing Excellence in Teaching Program (§79-8,132-79-8,140 R.R.S.). Rule 25, Regulations Governing the Excellence in Teaching Act (Title 92, NAC, Chapter 25), was adopted by the State Board of Education in March 2010 and approved by the Governor on September 14, 2010.

In addition, the Excellence in Teaching Cash Fund was created to fund the programs of the Excellence in Teaching Act (§79-8,137.05 R.R.S.). Available funds are allocated annually by NDE, with a maximum of $400,000 dispersed to the Attracting Excellence to Teaching Program for distribution to all participating eligible institutions and the remaining available funds ($600,000 minimum) dispersed to the Enhancing Excellence in Teaching Program for distribution to eligible students. Ffunds are distributed according to the respective program’s distribution formula as determined by the rules and regulations provided for in Rule 25.

Attracting Excellence to Teaching Program (AETP) - For eligible students working towards their initial certificate to teach in Nebraska.   

Enhancing Excellence in Teaching Program (EETP) - For current teachers in Nebraska schools working toward their graduate degree.
